A lot of people have commented about couple of aspects of my youtube video “The Most Evolved.” I am going to address the gist of some of those comments here.
Comment #1. “The video effects suck.”
Yes, I know the video FX suck. When I made this video I was just messing around…it was just for fun. It was my first time using some new video software and I was just experimenting with the stuff. I had no idea that this song would become so popular.
I wish I could take the effects out cause I know they are cheesy…but I cant. The video has over a million views! I can’t just delete it!
Comment #2. “The tittle of the song is arrogant.”
First of all the title “The Most Evolved” has nothing to do with my playing ability.
I named this song “The Most Evolved” because out of all my compositions this one took the longest journey of development and revision. It started out years ago as just a rough frame work and was mostly improvised.
It constantly changed and got better over the years. The song “evolved”. And when I named it I had a bunch of other songs that needed naming too. Although all my songs go through some kind of evolution during the creative process…this song I felt and had evolved the “most.” Hence the name “The Most Evolved.” And that’s it.

Your title – – caught my eye on the technorati feed page. I’m not sure that the content of the post actually matches the title though. You sure you’re not writing post titles to get readers, rather than representing the content of the post?

John, your music is awesome and I am impressed with the fact that you are at peace with the fact that you are not the best guitarist and will never be, shows that you are humble about it. I am glad that you have shared your compositions with the public at large. Any comments about your original video that were negatives should be completely ignored, I was totally blown away and I kinda liked the effects, not bad for just having fun. I really liked The Most Evolved and can play it through about 85%, just got lazy and didn’t finish the part right before the ending. Kudos to you on your accomplishments, pretty amazing if you ask me.
My only question is how in the world you do that cool strumming thing, I can’t even give a good description of what I mean. I’ll find a way somehow.
John, I am not sure why you even feel like you have to respond to any idiot that makes negative comments about your video, your song title, or anything else for that matter. You play incredibly well and you are good song writer. Do you think half of the idiots that look at YouTube have any skills or sense at all.
My suggestion….feel confident in your skill and your sensibility. Who cares what the public thinks…unless it is specifically that you can’t play guitar (which we know to be false).
Take this attitude with everything you are good at. Because the majority of people in this world are wannabes and dreamers.

The Most Evolved is a great song. At first, I did think it was an arrogant title, but later, I figured it had more of a personal meaning, which was confirmed by your post. People need to understand artists. They’re deep thinkers, and what may appear on the surface to be one thing may actually be another.
We say you in SF this last weekend at Ghiradelli Square. Yu played and my wife and I had to buy your two discs you had for sell. That half an hour was the most relaxing of my business/vacation weekend. I have already listened to them multiple times and look forward to hearing more songs in the future. Wonderful listening to you play – keep it up.

I just started getting interested in classical guitar after years of normal playing, I came across your video on YouTube that should the affects that you added, I was amazed, your playing is unbelievable and I hope you keep on playing, I loved the affects and I want to know if you can make a new video with the affects in it.

Wanted to tell you that I first saw your video over a year ago. At the time I had a faint idea that I would like to (re)learn music after giving the violin away way back in my teens. I also had continued dreams of playing the classical guitar but I put this down to my Dad feeding me a steady diet of John Williams when I was a young kid.
When I saw your video I resolved to take up the classical guitar. I felt (and still feel) that if I would diligently learn and practice hard for 10 years + and play as well as you then it would all be worth it.
That was a year ago. With the help of a supportive teacher, the purchase of some of your materials, and a few hundred hours of practice I am well on the path, and have a long way to go. I look to 2010 to do a recital.

I came across you last night in iTunes. I was TOTALLY SHOCKED!
I have always listened to Armik, Jose Luis Encinas, Jesse Cook, Johannes Linstead, Sharon Isbin (sp) and others, but you my friend, blow the doors off of all of them. I would love dearly to watch you play in person.
I have no idea why you think ” .. I am not the best guitarist in the world.” Okay, IMO it’s not too cool to go around saying (or even thinking) that you are the Greatest, but you are way past damn good. Your notes are crystal clear. Your fret and finger speed is magical. You and your guitar are ONE.
I saw your You Tube video ‘The Most Evolved’ at least ten times. You’re amazing. My only wish is that the music world recognizes your talent for what it truly is. I purchased your iTunes album, but you had split those compositions into two albums I would have still purchased them.

I just bumped into you by accident, was looking for one of Gerald Schwertberger’s songs. I love your compositions, amazing, I want to learn to play them, but your strumming is very hard to copy, will have to look at the youtube film extremely often to get that copied. Wish I could play like you, was just starting to enjoy myself on the guitar but now realize there is still much to learn…..keep making your beautiful music.
